The Rose Parade is a New Year’s Tradition celebrated in Pasadena, California every year. The parade includes elaborate floats covered in real flowers! But how did this Parade come about?
In 1890, the Valley Hunt Club held the first ever Tournament of Roses. The members of the club saw during the winter, many places were freezing and covered in snow. They took this as the perfect opportunity to hold a flower parade. The members of the Valley Hunt Club saw this as the perfect way to advertise the “paradise” that is the winter weather in California. This first parade featured horse-drawn carriages and several different sporting events such as football. Today the “Rose Bowl” football game still takes place every year after the parade.
The parade has evolved and modernized throughout the years. It now features motorized floats with elaborate floral designs. The parade is still enjoyed today with as many as 700,000-800,00 spectators every year, becoming a tradition known by everyone in the United States.
