On April 1, 2026, the United States is scheduled to start one of the biggest space missions in history. This mission is called Artemis II. For the first time in over 50 years, NASA is sending a crew of four astronauts to travel around the Moon. This is a very big deal for the country because it shows that America is ready to explore deep space again.
The crew is special, as it includes the first woman and the first person of color to ever leave Earth’s orbit. They will ride in a capsule on top of the most powerful rocket ever built. It will generate 8.8 million pounds of thrust at lift off. The mission will last approximately 10 days. The astronauts will fly far past the Moon to test all the equipment and make sure it is safe for people to live in space.
This mission is a huge moment for the USA. If everything goes well, it will lead to Americans walking on the Moon again very soon. People all over the world will be watching as the rocket carries these heroes into the stars. It is a proud day for science and for the future of our country.
