As of recent, the prices of computer parts have seen a drastic increase. Parts like the RAM and the memory have shot up to around 300% due to several factors: A.I. companies buying out the supply from big companies like SK Hynix and Nvidia. Companies and tech analyzers theorize that these prices will not budge in the slightest for the next coming months.
RAM, more specifically DRAM, used to be the most commonly found component in modern technology. It is inside your devices like your phone, laptop, electric car, and servers. They all serve different functions, but all come from the same type of manufacturing and 90% of all RAM comes from Samsung, HK Hynix, and Nvidia. There was wide variety of it across many different brands that could fit your budget seamlessly; however, due to the major jump in people and companies demanding more and more parts, there has been a record high shortage of RAM. It doesn’t end at just RAM; however, processors and memory units have also taken a blow from the surge of customers this year.
The most potent cause of the increase of price mainly comes from issues from manufacturing. These companies have specific paths and outlets they send their products to, but managing the sheer amount of people and companies demanding too much too fast, things derailed very quickly. Well renowned tech group Windows Central says “The cause? AI and the countless billions of dollars going towards the buildout of datacenters that support it.”
Due to a rise in A.I. and errors in manufacturing, technology has seen new issues that don’t seem to slow down soon. Prices have greatly fluctuated and shortages are being seen left and right. Stabilization of prices will eventually happen, but for now companies will have to endure these hardships.
