Harry Potter is a seven book series centered on a young wizard boy, Harry Potter. The series follows his life and his adventures beginning when Harry is eleven and ending when he is seventeen. During this time he attends Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. There, he discovers magic and learns how to use it for good.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone
Eleven year old Harry learns that he is a wizard while living with his cruel aunt, uncle, and cousin. He is invited to attend Hogwarts, a school for magic. At Hogwarts, he meets two other wizards, Hermione and Ron, and becomes friends with them. As time goes on, Harry learns that a a powerful evil wizard named Voldemort once tried to kill him but failed. Harry and his friends discover the Sorcerer’s Stone, a magical stone that can make someone live forever. In the end, Harry faces Professor Quirrell, who is being controlled by Voldemort, and stops him from stealing the Stone.
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
In his second year at Hogwarts, strange things begin to happen. Students are being found “petrified,” meaning they have been magically frozen. The school is terrified because it seems the legendary Chamber of Secrets has been opened. Rumors say it contains a monster only the “Heir of Slytherin” can control. Harry hears mysterious voices in the walls and starts to investigate with Ron and Hermione. Eventually, Harry discovers the monster is a giant serpent called a basilisk, and it is being controlled through a magical diary by a teenage version of Voldemort named Tom Riddle. Harry goes into the Chamber, fights the basilisk, destroys the diary, and saves Ginny Weasley, who was being controlled.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Before Harry starts his third year, he learns that a dangerous criminal named Sirius Black has escaped from Azkaban, the wizard prison. Everyone believes Sirius is after Harry. Dementors, which are dark, soul-sucking creatures, are sent to guard Hogwarts, and they deeply affect Harry. As the year goes on, Harry learns more about his parents’ past. With Ron and Hermione’s help, he uncovers the truth: Sirius Black was actually his parents’ friend and was wrongly blamed for betraying them. The real traitor is another wizard, Peter Pettigrew, who has been hiding as Ron’s rat for years. Harry tries to save Sirius from being punished for a crime he didn’t commit, but Sirius must flee to keep himself safe. Although he loses the chance to live with Sirius, Harry is comforted knowing he has family who cares about him.
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
In Harry’s fourth year, Hogwarts hosts the Triwizard Tournament, a dangerous magical competition between three schools. Only older students are allowed to compete, but somehow Harry’s name gets entered, forcing him to take part. He faces three deadly tasks involving dragons, mermaids, and a mysterious maze. Throughout the tournament, Harry senses something wrong but can’t figure it out. During the final task, he and fellow student Cedric Diggory are transported to a graveyard where Voldemort returns to full power. Voldemort kills Cedric and tries to kill Harry, who escapes only because of his parents’ magical protection. Harry returns with the terrible news that Voldemort is back.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Despite Voldemort’s return, the wizard government refuses to believe Harry and Dumbledore. They try to silence them and send a strict, cruel woman named Dolores Umbridge to run Hogwarts. She refuses to teach proper magic, so Harry forms a secret group called Dumbledore’s Army to help students learn defensive spells. Harry struggles with visions that connect him to Voldemort’s mind. Near the end of the year, he believes his godfather Sirius is in danger, so he and his friends go to the Ministry of Magic. They are ambushed by Death Eaters, and a battle breaks out. The real Order of the Phoenix arrives to help, but Sirius dies during the fight. After this, the Ministry finally admits Voldemort has returned.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
The wizarding world is now fully aware that Voldemort has returned. Harry spends more time learning about Voldemort’s past with Dumbledore, who reveals that Voldemort split his soul into objects called Horcruxes so he could live forever. Destroying these Horcruxes is the only way to defeat him. Harry also finds a mysterious potions book once owned by someone called the “Half-Blood Prince,” which helps him excel in class. Meanwhile, Draco Malfoy acts strangely because he has been ordered by Voldemort to kill Dumbledore. In the end, Death Eaters enter Hogwarts, and Draco cannot bring himself to commit the murder. Harry is determined to find and destroy all Horcruxes.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
Instead of returning to Hogwarts, Harry, Ron, and Hermione go on a dangerous mission to find and destroy Voldemort’s Horcruxes. They travel across the country, often with very little information and constant danger. They also learn about the Deathly Hallows, three magical items said to make someone unbeatable. As Voldemort gains control of the wizarding world, the trio discovers more secrets about Dumbledore, Snape, and Harry’s own connection to Voldemort. The final battle takes place at Hogwarts, where students, teachers, and magical creatures fight to protect the school. Harry learns he is a Horcrux and sacrifices himself, but his mother’s protection saves him again. Voldemort’s final spell backfires, he is destroyed for good and peace is finally restored.
