STAAR, (State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness) a standardized testing program measuring K-12 student knowledge, a test that by now we all know by heart, is changing its ways.
After a few years worth of discussion, the Texas Education Agency (TEA), has made the ultimate decision to eliminate the old STAAR test and will be redesigning it entirely. From what we used to know of the old annual STAAR test will now be three shorter consecutive tests starting from the beginning of the year to the end, to better measure the improvement of the students throughout the school year. It will also help teachers to track student progress and make adjustments throughout the year before students move on to the next grade level.
This new STAAR test was officially put into action last Thursday; however, this new STAAR test will not be implemented until the 2027-2028 school year. Meaning that the class of 28′ will be the last class to officially take the last final STAAR which is U.S. History.
TEA officials still need to work on creating the test and currently those details are TBA.
However, with the new STAAR test, for those who will take it, there will be feedback for both teachers and parents within 48 hours of taking the exams and raw scores will be provided two days after, which is much faster than the current STAAR, which we all remember would take weeks.
