Wylie Girls win District 4-5A track title; Wylie Boys take third finishing strong

Lady Bulldogs Track Results

The jump to Class 5A from 4A didn’t slow down the Wylie girls’ track team. The Lady Bulldogs’ hard work and dedication resulted in winning the District 4-5A track title Thursday, April 4 at Bearcat Stadium in Aledo.

“It was all about getting better,” Latham said. “Our first time being 5A, we definitely advanced. It’s obviously a lot harder than 4A, so I think we all did good today.”

Wylie, which made the leap from Class 4A to 5A this season, won the girls’ team title with 216 points. Aledo was second

(181), while Cooper was third (132). Wichita Falls Rider (39) and Wichita Falls High (36) rounded out the five-team district.

Latham capped the day by running with Abbi Gollihar, Kylie Thornton and Leandra Benton on the winning the 4 by 4 relay team. Wylie turned in a time of 4 minutes, 9.49 seconds to beat out Aledo (4:22.54).

Earlier in the day, Latham won the 300 hurdles (47.07) to lead a 1-2-3 Wylie finish. Rosia Collins was second (48.65), and Ambria Brekke was third (48.96).

Ambria Brekke turned in a 15.91 in the 100 meters, following second, Latham, with a time of 15.97. Wylie’s Madison LaBrenz was fourth (16.44).

Wylie’s Dusti Grant and Latham led a 1-2 finish in the girls’ long jump — the only varsity field event Thursday. Grant edged Latham by an inch with a leap of 15 feet, 11 inches. It was Grant’s second district title of the meet.

She won the triple jump on Wednesday (35-1).

The top four finishers in each event advance to the Districts 3/4-5A area meet April 18 in Lubbock.

Wylie also had a 1-2 finish in the 800. Gollihar won the event in 2:23.70, while teammate Benton was second (2:26.31).

Wylie’s Thornton won the 400 (1:02.25), followed by Aledo’s Lydia Lawrence (1:03.13) and Wylie’s Emma Melton (1:03.20).

A day earlier, Caylee Del Monte finished second in the 3,200 (12:55.39), and Hamilton was third (13:01.76). Wylie’s Avery Stevenson-Waller was fourth (13:11.39).

Although the Wylie Boys did not take home the winning title of 1st place in the District 4-5A track meet in Aledo, they all worked very hard in each of their events, and many athletes broke their personal record.

“This is new for us, a different level,” Coach Smith said. “We’re competing and we competed with them. We’ve got to feel good about that. We’ve got several going on to area; our times are coming down, and our marks are getting better. We’ll see some improvement because of their effort today.”

Wylie’s Hayden Keidl won the 400 (50.32), followed by Boyd (51.24), Wylie’s Victor Charo (51.96) and Cooper’s Christian Obregon (53.17).

Wylie’s Christian Ramirez beat out Cooper’s De Leon for the 110 hurdles title. Ramirez won it with a 15.55, while De Leon ran a 15.80.

Wylie’s Victor Charo finished second in the 800 (1:57.41) behind Aledo’s Graydon Morris (1:57.38). Wylie’s Ryan Elizondo was third (2:03.47), and Cooper’s Obregon was fourth (2:06.26).

Wylie’s Dylan Cook was third in the 1,600 (4:44.50) and the 3,200 (10:15.18) — the latter ran on Wednesday.

The 4 by 400 m relay team, Victor Charo, Cutter Edwards, Hayden Keidl, and Brandon Sanders, finished in second place beating Aledo and Wichita Falls Rider with the time of 3:30. 16, which also beat the Wylie High School’s boys track school record.

 

 

Wylie’s 4 by 200 meter relay team, Mychael Arrendell, Cutter Edwards, Hayden Keidl, and Brandon Sanders, finish in third place with the time of 1:29.47.

Wylie boys’ coach Kelly Smith said he knows some of his athletes were a bit disappointed in finishing third as a team, but he couldn’t fault their effort.
