On Monday, November 13, the Wylie High School chapter of the Texas Association of Future Educators (TAFE) went to their Area competition at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls in which nineteen people competed in one to three competitions each. Now seventeen of these students are going to state in at least one competition.
TAFE is a statewide non-profit student organization that helps students explore and gain knowledge on pursuing careers in education. The Wylie High School Chapter specifically, participates in hosting multiple Parents Night Out events, standing up against social issues, and area, state, and national competitions.
The Area competition brings together students from all across their area to compete in multiple competitions related to education. These competitions can be state or national, group or solo, and can range anywhere from five minutes to forty-five minutes.
This year, the competitions going to state – and their corresponding competitors – are as follows:
Breakout Session: Natalie Cramer, Jenna Thompson and Madelyn Williams
Children’s Literature: Josy Fletcher, Kayla St. James, and Jenna Thompson
Creative Lecture: Taylor Wood
Differentiated Lesson: Kaylin Dahl, Brook Richardson, and Taylor Wood
Ethical Dilemma: Josh Corrigan, Jenna Thompson and Taylor Wood; Kayla St James and Quinn Griffin
Interactive Bulletin Board: Kaylee Hardwick and Reagan Rollins, Angel Heinz, Terra Clement, and Maddi Bearden
Public Speaking: Josh Corrigan and Payton Lunsford
Teacher Created Materials: Isabella Smith
Coming from last year when the Wylie High School Chapter of TAFE – being in its first year – had only seven people move on to state competition, seventeen is a major accomplishment. Each year as TAFE grows there are more and more people joining and competing and leaving their Bulldog paw print on the organization. We hope that TAFE members will continue to show the nation how great it is to be a Wylie Bulldog! Good luck to all competitors going to state!
