So the Blackout pep rally, for those who don’t know, is a celebration in which all the lights are turned off, and most people have glow sticks. Most people bring glow sticks that they throw after the lights are turned off. Of course this leads to some incidents such as people throwing items or shouting out things they shouldn’t. Unfortunately, the lights had to be turned on this year because of this reason. The years that Wylie has a blackout pep rally we have had a few incidents, but this year a few students have said that the pep rally was ruined by students who could not act right. The rest of the pep rally continued with the lights on. Many think that the blackout pep rally should be cancelled because of the risks and bad behavior of the student body.
A student Grace Warren stated, “We really just need better security, like maybe finding a more thorough way to check students before they walk in, or even following through with taking away the blackout pep rally next year or entirely.”
Another student, Logan Hill, said, “I believe we should keep the blackout pep rally because students look forward to it since the beginning of the year.”
What could have been a fun pep rally, became an uninteresting show. We Bulldogs need to mature so that we can partake in these fun activities. And this article is a consideration to change other pep rallies.
