D.I. Teams are Going Global

McKenzie McElyea, staff writer

As D.I. season is quickly approaching the global competition, I’d like to recognize our teams here at Wylie that were chosen to advance. Each of these teams had to compete at state on March 26th, and faced around 20 other groups, all competing for a chance to go on to globals. We’re very proud of each of our teams and would like to give recognition to each of them for their hard work.

Galaxy Goats – 5th EL

The Galaxy Goats are an elementary level  team competing in the Fine Arts category. They received fifth place and were given the opportunity to advance to globals but decided not to.

Science Alliance – 2nd ML

The Science Alliance are a middle level team competing in the Service Learning category. They received second place and will be moving on to globals.

I’d also like to have some special recognition for both of our high school teams, who both decided to compete in multiple challenges, as opposed to one.

Mental Milkshakes – 4th and 13th SL

The Mental Milkshakes are a secondary (high school) level team consisting of Seth Bergen, Carlie Buck, Mia Chavez, Ryan Ross, Fiona Starks, Blaze Valentine, and Carson Wells. They are competing in the Engineering and Fine Arts challenges. They tied for 4th place in Engineering, will be advancing to globals, and received 13th in Fine Arts.

Metallic Chickens – 1st and 4th SL

The Metallic Chickens are a secondary level team consisting of the following people: Abbie Bulls, Kelsie Burleson, Sheridan Johnson, McKenzie McElyea, Avery Nelson, and Kyle Page. They are competing in two challenges: Scientific and Improv. They received 1st and 4th places respectively, alongside their second Renaissance award for their Scientific challenge. The Chickens have received this award twice now for their Scientific challenge, due to the amount of time and effort they put into their research and the information they delivered in their performance.

We look forward to seeing where each of these teams will place at globals and wish them luck in the 4-day competition from May 21-24.
