The Wylie chess club, Knights of the Square Table, has big things coming up. This ambitious group meets after school on Thursdays from 3:40 to 4:30 in room.

They welcome anyone and everyone to join them as they play chess and help improve their critical thinking skills. “I’m happy that people are interested in chess and that more people are willing to learn how to play,” said David DePrang, president of the chess club. “ I’m excited that we now have a designated club where we can play chess, discuss strategies, and share ideas.”

Chess club is also a great way to meet new individuals. It provides an opportunity to form friendships while bonding over the beloved game.

A member of the club, Alondra Correa, said, “ I feel as though chess provides an outlet for those who want to get out and meet new

people while providing an intellectually stimulating environment. Everyone has all sorts of stories, but we can all say we enjoy chess as much as the other. You get to hang out with friends and joke around as you play. I love playing chess and hopefully others feel encouraged to come and challenge themselves at a match.”

David DePrang, president of the chess club, said they will be hosting an upcoming tournament at 9 a.m. on April 9. Further details can be provided after school where the club meets. The club welcomes anyone to come and play even if they aren’t in the club.

Jessica Hunter, a member of the club, said, “Doesn’t matter what level you’re at, we’re mostly just here to have fun.”
