The Wylie Little League baseball team had a World Series run of a lifetime. They made it to the top 8 teams in the country before falling to Michigan.

In the Southwest Regional tournament to qualify for the World Series, Wylie lost its first game to Louisiana. Despite this, the team rallied, beating Arkansas and New Mexico, advancing to their most important game yet. The team faced Colorado in a win-or-go-home qualifying match, and Wylie showed up ready to compete. Their 3-0 win guaranteed the team a spot in the Little League World Series.

Upon entering the LLWS, Wylie faced up against its first opponent, Michigan. After a delay, the game was scheduled to be played on August 23. After a valiant battle with the future tournament winners, Michigan, Wylie fell short 2-1.  This loss did not stop the team as they suited up the next day to face New Jersey. Wylie pulled through and won 2-1, securing their place in the top 16 teams in the country.

Coming off a win, Wylie was ready to show everyone what they were made of. On August 25, they found themselves matched with Hastings, Nebraska. Wylie cruised to a solid 10-0 victory, enforcing the 10 run rule. They were officially in the top 8 teams in the country.  The next day, the 26, was the second time Wylie faced Michigan. Sadly, Michigan went up early and by the time Wylie found their rhythm, it was too late. Michigan won 15-6.

Wylie’s historic run shouldn’t be defined by anything other than greatness. The way these kids battled their hearts out for every game should be celebrated. We are extremely proud of the team and wish them well.  Wylie little league team was recognized at the Wylie vs. Cooper game this week, further embedding their accomplishment into Wylie’s history.
