One of the lesser known, but equally interesting clubs at Wylie High School is Spanish Club. This month the group participated in a Megamind movie night and the Dallas Dia de los Muertos parade. The club also has other events planned, such as their Rosa’s Christmas celebration.

On October fourth, Spanish club met for food and fun at the Blackbox in the P.A.C. The group’s members brought Chick-fil-A, soft drinks, and even Megamind themed cookies. The club watched Megamind in Spanish while enjoying their snacks.

Last Saturday, Spanish Club met at Wylie High School to drive to Dallas for the Day of the Dead parade. They made a stop at Starbucks and visited the Dallas Spanish Culture Museum. There the students observed countless Spanish art pieces and other objects from Spanish culture, such as ofrendas. Afterward, the club headed to the parade. Joyce N. described the scene as an “explosion of colors and Spanish music”  and that the whole experience was “eye-opening”, and she has “more respect for Spanish culture” as a whole. Joyce N. was grateful for the “multiple opportunities” Spanish Club offers to learn about “Spanish culture and celebrate traditions”.

In December, Spanish Club plans to throw a Christmas party at Rosa’s. There will be a white elephant gift giving exchange and free sopapillas, a classic Mexican specialty. Spanish clubs multiple events are a creative way to get involved in Spanish culture. If you’re interested in becoming a part of Spanish Club, go by Mrs. Taylor’s room for a sign-up sheet.
