The 2025 MLB Playoffs have had a lot of close games, big plays, and surprising outcomes. Teams from both the American League and National League are competing for a spot in the World Series. So far, the games have been intense and full of excitement, with every pitch and every swing bringing fans to the edge of their seats. As the postseason continues, it’s clear that this year’s playoff race is shaping up to be one of the most memorable in recent history.
The playoffs started on September 30 with the Wild Card round. In the American League, the Detroit Tigers beat the Cleveland Guardians in three games, and the New York Yankees beat the Boston Red Sox in another close series. In the National League, the Los Angeles Dodgers swept the Cincinnati Reds in two games, while the Chicago Cubs won a tight series against the San Diego Padres.
In the next round, the Blue Jays faced the Yankees and won the series 3 games to 1. One of the biggest moments was when Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit a grand slam in Game 2. The Yankees managed to win one game, but the Blue Jays were just too strong. The Seattle Mariners played the Tigers in one of the wildest playoff series ever. Game 5 lasted 15 innings, the longest winner-take-all game in MLB playoff history. Seattle’s Leo Rivas tied the game in the 7th inning, and Jorge Polanco won it with a walk-off hit in the 15th inning. In the National League Division Series, the Dodgers beat the Phillies 3–1. The last game ended in extra innings after a big mistake by Phillies pitcher Orion Kerkering, which led to the winning run being scored. The Cubs and Brewers also had a close series, which went to a deciding Game 5.
The League Championship Series (ALCS and NLCS) is now underway. In the American League, the Seattle Mariners currently lead the Toronto Blue Jays 3 games to 2. The Mariners took Game 1 (3-1) and Game 2 (10-3) with standout performances from Jorge Polanco and Julio Rodríguez. The Blue Jays fought back with wins in Games 3 and 4 but fell in Game 5 after Eugenio Suárez hit a grand slam to give Seattle a 6-2 victory and a commanding series lead. The Mariners are now one win away from clinching their first World Series berth. In the National League, the Los Angeles Dodgers completed a dominant sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers, taking the NLCS 4-0. Shohei Ohtani led the Dodgers with historic performances, including three home runs and 10 strikeouts in the clinching Game 4, securing the Dodgers’ spot in the World Series. The World Series is set to begin on October 24, with the Dodgers awaiting the winner of the ALCS. So far, the 2025 MLB playoffs have been full of action, amazing performances, and history-making moments, and there’s still plenty more excitement to come.
