Mr. McIntire, commonly referred to as Coach Mac is a baseball coach and business teacher. So, how did he become a teacher for a business class and how did he become a baseball coach? Coach Mac graduated from Texas A&M and got a degree in business. Coach Mac originally worked at a daycare and then owned it. He explained that he wanted to change career paths, and that is when Coach Sandifer asked if he wanted to be a baseball coach. When asked where his passion comes from he said, “The passion itself comes from Coach Clay Martin.” Back in high school, Coach Mac attended Wylie High School and played baseball as a Wylie Bulldog. Before the 2024 school year started, the old business teacher left. Coach Mac approached Mrs. Berry and reminded her of his degree in business. So, his first year teaching business was last year. Students learn a lot from teachers, and teachers learn a lot from students. He was asked how he motivates students who struggle with the material. He said that he tries to find a way to make the work relatable. I asked how he motivates his players when they struggle, and he said that he does not treat them any different from his students. If they are struggling, then he will find a way for things to click.
His greatest accomplishment and favorite memory is the 2016-2017 back to back state championships. It’s a busy schedule coaching baseball and teaching business, so it takes a lot of planning to stay on top of everything. He wishes people knew that he is easygoing, laid back, and his class is low stress. Coach Mac gives students the opportunity to use their creativity through projects and fun activities. Coach Mac is a very valued teacher and coach. A co-worker that inspires him is Clay Martin because he is very knowledgeable about the sports he teaches and helped Coach Mac not only understand coaching but the game itself. He is also inspired by Grant Martin because he builds very good relationships with his students. Coach Mac is most proud of students when they do well inside the classroom, but even more when they excel outside of the classroom, in their activities as well. For example, the Belles pep rally music cut out for last year’s homecoming dance, but they pushed through. Some advice Coach Mac would give aspiring teachers is you have to love what you do. He says it’s not one of the jobs you do for the money.
Wylie High School is lucky to have a teacher and coach who genuinely loves his job, loves to supports his students, and wants the best for his students.
