Team tennis is one of the most fun and exciting sports out there. Most people don’t know how the scoring works. A team tennis match consists of 3 boys and girls doubles matches each, 6 boys and girls singles matches, and 1 mixed doubles match which is a boy and girl playing together. There are 19 matches total which means the first team to win 10 matches wins.
The Wylie Team Tennis team is currently 15-2 and ranked #1 in the state for 5A. The two matches they have lost have been to two top-ranked 6A teams, Southlake Carroll and El Paso Coronado. They just won their first district match against Wichita Falls Legacy with a score of 13-6 and most recently won a tough match, 10-9, against San Angelo Central.
Varsity player Mia Martinez was asked how she felt about the tennis season so far. She reported that the team “has gotten so much better from last year” and “much closer as friends and teammates.” She also said that there was a good chance that the team could make it to state again this year like last year. The tennis team is really excited for the season. Go support the team and GO BULLDOGS!
