mRNA Vaccines
mRNA cancer vaccines are tailored to the individual receiving the shot. Personalizing a vaccine allows the immune system to “recognize, destroy and prevent the spread of cancer cells.” (NHS)
Bladder Cancer Vaccine
Cancer vaccines have improved over time, and this is evident in the years’ progress! For example, Mount Sinai has been working on PGV001, which is a vaccine for people with bladder cancer. The vaccine is customized for each patient and works by targeting mutations in a tumor to find neoantigens that will signal the immune system. The latest trial run included 10 patients, and each vaccine was made to match their specific mutations in order to provide an optimal immune response.
NHS Cancer Vaccine Launch Pad (CVLP)
The CVLP is a platform based in England that allows those diagnosed with cancer to enter clinical trials for cancer vaccines. Vaccines can reduce the chances of cancer coming back in patients, but not all patients will be eligible for a trial. The NHS is aiming to help 10,000 patients by 2023.
