The worst mistake we could make is thinking we don’t need to take the situation seriously. The worst thing we could possibly do as a school is think that we do not need to act with the same amount of urgency and effectiveness as other schools. Because the result of doing so could be detrimental.
There is no doubt that Wylie High School has many procedures and regulations set in place not only to ensure its students’ safety, but everyone’s safety within the building. There is no doubt that Wylie High School is superior to other schools in regards to safety and the overall learning environment. However, that does not mean we are a perfect school. That does not mean we do not have any problems. That does not mean we can act on the issues and problems that plague our school with less urgency and care than a typical school would. If we begin to believe that Wylie High School is flawless, we will lose the order and control that makes this school superior to others. And once, or when, this order is lost, it is a “slipper-slope” down. A slope that many schools fail to climb out of. Order is what we need. Order is what we currently have. And order is the thing we recklessly put on the line when we don’t act on problems with urgency and seriousness.
Wylie High School is a great school. Compared to others it’s clean, orderly, and safe. And in order to ensure that Wylie High School stays this way, we need to maintain our focus. We absolutely cannot forget that if we lose focus, we will start to lose order, security, and safety. It’s as simple as that. We need to continue to act on issues with urgency. We need to continue to keep our eyes sharp for suspicious behavior. We need to bring light to situations, and speak up when we feel we need to. We all, and that means students and staff members, need to do our part in maintaining order.
