Monday, May 6, was the 2024 Wylie All-Sports Banquet. This event, held at ACU’s Moody Coliseum, recognizes the accomplishments of all Wylie athletes throughout the school year. Put on by the Wylie All-Sports Booster Club, the banquet also serves to recognize athletes who have just finished their senior season.
Football, golf, basketball, volleyball, track and field, cross country, swimming, soccer, powerlifting, tennis, and sports medicine were among those acknowledged for their accomplishments during their 2023-24 season. The Wylie community got to watch proudly as each group made their way to the front as their coach spoke about the hard work and accomplishments of the athletes that year.
The Wylie All-Sports Banquet is the one time that every varsity athlete that is proud to represent Wylie High School is in the same room. There were smiles and laughter. Coaches and athletes alike shared stories and memories from their season.
After each sport had been recognized, scholarships were awarded to 23 lucky seniors. In addition, senior football player, Collin Bruning, was awarded the Don Mouser Award and senior soccer player, Allie Allen, received the Stacy Kirk Award.
And then it was time for the tears. Every year, the All-Sports Banquet ends with a slideshow commemorating all of Wylie’s senior athletes. After each senior had been called to stand on the balcony level of Moody Coliseum, the slideshow was played. Everyone watched as a baby picture and a grown-up picture of each senior athlete was displayed. Applause and cheers broke out after all 88 seniors had been celebrated.
The banquet ended with hugs and pictures. The athletes went home reflecting fondly on another great year, and whether they are continuing their athletic career or hanging up their jersey, the Wylie seniors went home feeling proud of their contribution to Wylie High School athletics.
