The 5A Regional Tournament for girl’s golf took place on April 17th and 18th at Lakeridge Country Club in Lubbock. The Wylie Lady Bulldogs’ golf team left on the morning of the 16th for their practice round in Lubbock at 12:50. On the 17th of April, the girls teed off in the early morning. The sun was out for most of the day, and there was little to no wind. After the first round, the team score was a total of 356 with Brighton Diller shooting an 83, Amelie Liew shooting an 84, Linden Smalley with a 93, Kiara Fierro with a 96, and Maddy Kates with a 97. The golf team was sitting in eighth place out of 16 teams. On the second day, the girls once again teed off in the early morning. The weather on the second day of the regional tournament was cloudy and very windy. The conditions were tough with wind blowing 20-30 miles per hour with 40 mile per hour gusts at times. After the second round, the regional tournament ended and the team shot a total of 365. This put the girls at a total of 721 in sixth place. Amelie Liew shot an 84 for a total score of 168, Brighton Diller shot 97 for a total score of 180, Linden Smalley shot an 88 for a total of 181, Kiara Fierro finished with another 96 for a total of 192, and finally, Maddy Kates shot a 105 ending with a total score of 202.
The 5A Regional Tournament for the Wylie boy’s golf team took place on April 15th and 16th at Hillcrest Golf and Country Club. The boys had a practice round on the 14th similar to the girls. On the 15th during the golf team’s first round, the weather was sunny and there was very little wind. The boys shot a total of 305 on the first day with Casen James and Reece Templeton both shooting a 73, Jack Curington shooting a 79, Jack Cole shooting an 80, and Carson Groban shooting an 85. On the second day of the boy’s regional tournament, the conditions were poor with wind blowing 30-35 miles per hour. With most teams playing worse than the first day, the Wylie golf team shot a score of 321 with a two day total of 626. Jack Cole shot a 76 on the second day with a total of 156 tying with Casen James who shot an 83 total of 156 and Jack Curington with a 77 total of 156. Reece Templeton finished with an 85 total of 158, and Carson Groban shot a 91 for a total of 176. The Wylie boys’ team finished 7 strokes back from the state qualifiers.
