On Saturday, November 18, Unified Bulldogs, a class offered at Wylie High School, traveled to San Angelo around 7AM. The reason for this was because Unified competed in a Special Olympics event. This event was a bowling competition. Around 9AM, opening ceremonies began to commence. These opening ceremonies consisted of four different members from four different competing teams walking with a torch and passing it on to the next team. The opening ceremonies lasted about an hour including the time it took to announce all the teams in attendance that day.
10:00 is when the first half of teams finally began to compete in the doubles (partner paired with athlete) division. This division pairs one athlete with one partner to compete against another athlete and partner duo. A Wylie doubles team finished second place in this division.
Lunch was then provided by Wylie for the Unified Bulldogs competing around noon. After lunch, the four person teams began to compete. This division consisted of the remaining teams in groups of four bowling for a better score against other four person teams. Wylie High Unified Bulldogs had many teams place in this category. The San Angelo bowling competition was over around 3PM, and Unified Bulldogs arrived in Abilene towards 5PM. This wrapped the day’s competition up, and many athletes went home with a medal.
Since then, Unified Bulldogs also participated in the Abilene Christmas Parade on Tuesday, November 28th. On Thursday, December 14th, the Unified class took a field trip to Abilene Youth Sports Center during the school day. They will also have a Christmas party before Christmas break. The next sport Unified will participate in will be powerlifting following the return of students after the break.
