There are many disputes about which foods qualify as “Thanksgiving Foods,” but every family is different in their traditions and values. Most people enjoy the poster foods for Thanksgiving, turkey and ham, and others enjoy other foods like brisket or chicken. The point is that everybody has different likes and dislikes, so buckle up kids because I’m ranking the Top 10 Thanksgiving Foods (in my opinion).
Coming in at #10 would have to be stuffing. As a very traditional food made of breadcrumbs, butter, and vegetables, stuffing fills all the categories for a comfort food. Stuffing is best served warm, and some people like to put gravy on it.
Next up, at #9, we have candied yams. Candied yams are sweet potatoes covered in brown sugar and marshmallows and then cooked in the oven. This dish is a sweet compliment to all of the savory foods.
At #8 we have broccoli and cheese casserole. The casserole is composed of broccoli, cheese, and rice. It’s a very plain dish but goes well with most proteins.
#7 is ham. Now I’m not a very big fan of ham, but I felt it had to make the list. Ham is classic for Thanksgiving and Christmas. It’s just so popular that I felt bad not giving it a spot.
Mashed potatoes place at #6. Mashed potatoes are a classic dish and can be served with whatever your heart desires. This is a very versatile dish that most people enjoy.
Ranking in the top five, we have gravy. Gravy is a wonderful sauce that you can put on any Thanksgiving dish.
Cranberry sauce ranks at #4. A classic condiment for Thanksgiving, cranberry sauce is a tart but sweet addition to your plate.
Before we rank the top 3, we have an honorable mention: Pie. Pie didn’t make the list because there are so many different flavors/variations of pie that it would be difficult to just pick which one to name.
#3 has to be mac’n’cheese. Most people would argue that mac’n’cheese isn’t a Thanksgiving food, but we’re not talking about box mac’n’cheese here. Thanksgiving mac’n’cheese is a homemade cheesy casserole, most of the time paired with whatever protein your family has cooked up, and baked in the oven to give it a nice crust.
#2 is turkey. Most people would argue that turkey needs to be number one, but everyone eats turkey differently. My family prefers to smoke the turkey while others oven roast it or slow cook it.
And finally, first place goes to biscuits! Ranked at #1 homemade, flaky biscuits/rolls that just melt in your mouth and pair so well with gravy. You can use these little bits of bread heaven to make a sandwich, get all the remaining gravy off your plate, or just eat plain. Biscuits pair with everything at Thanksgiving, and I’ve never seen anyone turn them down.
