If you’ve ever walked down the athletic hall, I’m sure you’ve been greeted by the one and only Mrs. Wilson, the athletic secretary for Wylie High School. She manages various things in the athletic department and helps things run smoothly at Wylie athletic events. She has been working as the athletic secretary since January 2022, so she is almost done with her second year.
Mrs. Wilson says one of the main parts of her job is working all of the gates at any junior high and high school sporting events. She also keeps track of all the sports schedules on the websites, and does many other tasks throughout the day to assist students and coaches. In addition, all of the athletic department finances go through her. She takes care of things from meals for the teams traveling to sports equipment.
The students and staff she gets to interact with are her favorite part of this job. “It reminds me of when I was a teacher and a coach, so my favorite part is interacting with the kids and the people who like the same things that I like.” She enjoys talking all things sports with the athletes and coaches.
While Mrs. Wilson loves all of the different sports seasons, football and track season are her favorites. She says football is a great way to start the year and get everyone involved in school spirit. As for track, she used to be the head track coach for a previous school she worked at, so she enjoys being a part of it again during Wylie’s track season. So next time you find yourself in the athletic hall, give her a shout out and a big thanks for all she does!
