The Wylie High School girl’s golf team is about halfway through their 2023 fall season. The girl’s first tournament was called the Lady Pirate Fall Classic and took place in Granbury at the Harbor Lakes golf course on September 15th and September 16th. After battling the weather and a tough course filled with narrow fairways and water hazards on every corner, the Lady Bulldogs finished 6th overall as a team, 9 shots back from 5th place held by distract rival Lubbock Cooper. Amelie Liew finished 4th overall medalist shooting 83 on the first day and 79 on the second day with a total of 162.
Lower scores were seen the second day of the Lady Pirate Fall Classic as the first day, rain poured and players were told to seek shelter in the clubhouse after playing only two holes. An hour delay then occurred before girls were finally brought back out onto the course to finish their round of golf. However, this was challenging as casual water was everywhere and greens were now a different pace. This proved to be a big inconvenience when putting for many of the girls competing in this tournament.
The second tournament the girls golf team competed in took place in Lubbock on October 6th and October 7th. The first day, the girls played at the Texas Tech Rawls course. The second day, players went to the Shadow Hills golf course. Wylie girl’s golf finished 6th place once more out of ten teams and 58 total girls. Amelie Liew came in 3rd place shooting a 78 at the Rawls golf course and a 75 at the Shadow Hills golf course with a total of 153. Kiara Fierro had an 8th place finish shooting an 81 on the first day and an 82 on the second day ending with a 163 total and a two day career low.
Lady Bulldog golf will be competing in the Abilene High Halloween Tournament in Abilene at the Diamondback National golf course and Maxwell golf course on October 28th and October 29th. The Sweetwater Invitational at Sweetwater Country Club on November 10th and 11th will wrap up Wylie girls golf’s fall season until their spring season begins again in February.
