The human brain is an incredibly complex thing from the way it works to the different parts of it. The amygdala, hippocampus, and prefrontal cortex are indicative of stress responses. These parts of the brain, mainly the amygdala, control stress. Mental Health can be affected by stressful situations or stress inducing environments.
People’s mental health is very important, often overlooked is adolescents’ mental wellness. Mainly in schools people forget that kids could be struggling at home, with school, or with insecurities. Kids and teenagers could be through something as big as life changing or traumatic experiences that may affect their mental health in a negative way. It could be something small, like a divorce or a change that affects a person; everyone has different outlooks on life and different perspectives on what might affect them.
Schools and parents might say, “Well you’re just seeking attention or being dramatic” when in reality it could make things worse. If a child comes to a parent or school, they should be able to confide and communicate with them how they are feeling. Schools could also try to look into ways more than one to help them out like counselors they can go to during the passing period. We never know what one might be going through and if they need help.
Bullying a kid can also make someone insecure leading to worse thoughts of themselves and possibly messing with how they see themselves permanently. These thoughts of not being good enough or everything being too much might and can lead to forms of self harm or the teenager or child hurting themselves.
Ways we can prevent this are, positive reassurance, making sure everyone has a person, or making sure you ask how people are doing, so they can feel comfortable knowing you’re there for them.
