The Wylie Bulldogs volleyball team is motivated  for another breakout year. The team has a variety of players coming back and a new mindset; not to mention a renewed spirit with a hunger to succeed.

The girls have a good number of returning students to the roster; there are six seniors coming back for their last year as Bulldogs. The team’s experience “has really helped (them) battle through (the) competition with a few injured players,” Coach Cox, the volleyball’s coach, recalled. Since last year was the volleyball’s first season in 5A, the team understands what they’re going against. The previous season the Bulldogs were 22-17; only Aledo and Ryder were better. This season they have “high expectations of doing well in district and going deep in the playoffs,” Cox declared. With what the team has learned from last year, they’re primed for success.

So far this season, girls are 13-13 and hope to continue the winning record. Last month the girls started the season with a statement: a win versus 6A San Angelo Central and becoming AYSA tournament champions. Coach Cox elaborated that this is due to “other players [having] stepped up . . . and lead [the] team to one successful win after another. ” The team’s mindset has made the girls’ focus for the playoffs unrelenting-even in the preseason- so the girls have been  working “hard in the off season and summer to get stronger and . . . familiar with more than one position.”  This year’s start is proof that the volleyball team’s hard work is paying off and propelling them to victory.

Now playing with more knowledge, higher stakes, as well as nineteen wins under their belt, the Wylie Volleyball team is confident in what they can accomplish this year. The girls are geared to go the distance against their 5A opponents and are definitely the team to watch.
